The Construction work of the Vijitharama Buddhist Temple was started on May 13th 2011 in parallel to the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Celebration under the guidance of Venerable Muruthamure Pannaloka Thero. The main building of the temple was completed within one year with the generous support of foreign and local devotees. The temple was officially opened on July 26th 2012. Many Venerable monks including Ven. Dr. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Nayaka Thero, Ven. Dr. Ittapane Dhammalankara Nayaka Thero, Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Nayaka Thero, Ven. Howpe Somananda Nayaka Thero participated the ceremony. Hon. Minister Dinesh Gunawardane, well-wishers, supporters and many devotees took part in the ceremony.

Venerable Muruthamure Pannaloka, thero is a disciple of late Ven. Udhamulle Chandaloka Nayaka Thero. Ven Pannaloka completed his primary education at Rathmalana Parama Dhamma Chetiya Pirivena and Gangodawila Subhaddrarama Pirivena. He did his higher education at the Calcutta University, India where he passed his B.A and M.A in Pali. He also completed a degree in Library Science from the same University. He followed a post Graduate course in Buddhist Studies at the Maha Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. He was a lecturer in the University of Kelaniya and a teacher of Parama Dhamma Chetiya pirivena, Rathmalana.
